On October 17, 2017, 21 new members and 12 returning members were inducted into the National Junior Beta Club Chapter at St. Mary’s Prep. The Beta Club is similar to a student government, but the focus is on leadership, character, and service. Acceptance into the club is no easy task. Students must try their hardest in school, be in good academic standing, and set a positive example in the school community. Additionally, each student had to complete their own service project on their own time over the summer and write an essay.
A requirement for the Beta Club is to design and complete an approved service project. Students focused on “Rise Against Hunger,” raised money for Breast Cancer Research, and collected toiletries for Straight & Narrow. Summer projects included “Swim for MS,” “Backpacks for Life,” and the Interfaith Food Pantry. Pet supplies were also collected, as were school supplies for students. Students also found fulfillment by beautifying St. Mary’s Prep buildings and grounds.
We would like to officially congratulate the 2017-2018 St. Mary’s Prep Junior Beta Club members. The Beta Club is sponsored by the Eighth Grade teacher, Ms. Brooke Smith, and overseen by Principal Dr. Margaret McCluskey.
