We are enjoying Kindergarten very much! We have been very busy. We are so excited and feeling very proud that we are now reading. We are writing descriptive sentences in our Writing Journals. In Math we learned about Position Words, counting from 1-20 and what number comes before, between and after a given number. We are presently learning about two digit numbers understanding how many tens and ones are in a two digit number and we will soon start addition and subtraction. in Science we are learning about hibernation, migration, and adaptation. We will do a S.T.E.M. Project on making a Bear Den using the materials provided. In December we were very busy Engineers! We worked with a partner and we created a plan to make a Gingerbread House and then took our plan and created our Gingerbread House. It was fun to see all the different Gingerbread Houses we made! We had alot of fun!
“I like SMP because we have after school activities like cheerleading and sign language club.”
The cheer team consists of enthusiastic, fun, hardworking athletes whose mission is to represent St. Mary’s Prep with their energetic spirit and dedication. The cheerleaders perform at the pep rally and ten basketball games throughout the season.
"I love doing ART in school.”
The Art Program at SMP provides students with opportunities to experience different art techniques and skills. Problem solving skills are developed through creative thinking. Students also develop a knowledge of art appreciation which will help them to see parallels between themselves and past and present cultures.
As we continue our journey through Catholic Schools Week, we celebrate our Catholic schools -- our communities of faith, knowledge, and service.
Yesterday, Tuesday, a day of service to our faculty, staff, and alumni, the faculty was treated to a wonderful breakfast cooked and served by some of the staff of SMP. Immediately following, alumni students and faculty were also served a delicious breakfast. Our Alumni Breakfast is now an annual tradition. The former students and faculty were then given a tour of the classrooms by our Student Ambassadors, members of our Eighth Grade Class of 2017. The alumni students and faculty shared their experiences of attending/teaching at St. Mary’s Prep.
Our H&SA, along with the generosity of our school parents, set up a “supply bar” of school supplies for the faculty and staff to restock their classrooms. There was an abundance of paper, post-its, pencils, and other supplies that are used on a daily basis.
Today, Wednesday, was a day of service to our community and religious. After our morning prayer assembly, volunteers were honored for their service and commitment to our students and school. They give of their time and talent in our classrooms, cafeteria, after care program, and library. Some are grandparents or former parents who lend their skills and talents to our students. They are an inspiration to all of us.
As part of our thank you to the religious of our community, the students wrote thank-you notes to our priests, deacons, and pastoral associate, thanking them for their commitment to our faith and to our school. The sisters of Assumption College in Denville were also honored for their service to our community by presenting them with cookies, many home-baked, as a token of our appreciation for their dedication to education.
