Dr. Margaret McCluskey
We had a great first day of school. Our SMP family came as a community, prayed together and welcomed back everyone to our school. Tomorrow we will celebrate our opening Mass as 10:00, and after Mass our student ambassadors will receive their official ambassador shirts.
As you walk through the halls, you may see paper buckets with students’ first names on them displayed outside each homeroom. This is part of a Beta Club project from Brielle Jones in which students place acts of kindness they felt or acts of kindness they witnessed on paper stars and place them on the bucket. Values of kindness, respect and service are integral parts of our school climate.
Mrs. Kadin is coordinating a program with the NY Jets called Stomp Out Bullying. The program is the Jets Upstander of the Week program. We were one of the schools selected to participate in this initiative that supports students being outstanding role models. We have been given tickets by the Jets for five home games with parking passes and a student will be selected each week who demonstrates those qualities . More information is in next week’s Times.
September 14 is our Back to School Night. It is an opportunity to meet the teachers and get an overview of your child’s class. Parent conferences will be held in mid November. This year there will be tables set up at 6:30 for parents to have the opportunity to find out about the many volunteer initiatives
including: athletics, lunch, room parents, tricky tray, etc. This will be helpful in deciding what areas are of interest to you and fulfill the 25 hours of our Volunteer Initiative Program (VIP). There will be paper copies of the areas that you would like to volunteer in and we ask you to complete these forms before you leave that evening. The meeting will begin at 7:00 with a brief HSA introduction and school overview and you will visit to your child’s classroom to meet the teacher(s).
Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims of the hurricane in Houston. The NCEA has asked all Catholic schools in the country to collect funds of which 100% will be donated to Catholic Relief Services to assist the many people whose lives were displaced. We will be having a dress down day on Monday Sept. 25th. Thank you in advance for your generosity.
As safety is always a priority, to be proactive we will be conducting a test of the Rediker Admin Plus Notify system on Monday Sept. 11th, at 7:00PM. You should receive a phone call, text and or email whatever you had originally signed up for in Power School. Please let Mrs. Bassano know if you do not get a call.
Thank you, as always, for your time and support,
Margaret McCluskey, Ed.D.
