 Pre-Kindergarten:  Mrs. Sagaas

Mrs. Sagaas is a graduate of Wesley College. She continued her educational pursuits at Kean University where she received her degree in Early Childhood Education. Mrs. Sagaas brings over 15 years of preschool teaching experience to SMP. Our parents pride Mrs. Sagaas on providing a gentle and nurturing classroom, where our smallest students thrive, learn and grow.

Kindergarten: Mrs. Lutz

Mrs. Lutz is a graduate of Kean University. She holds a Bachelor's degree in elementary education and is state certified to teach PK– 8th grade. Mrs. Lutz’s teaching experience includes 5 years in Elizabeth and Randolph public schools, and 20 years at SMP.  Our parents pride Mrs. Lutz on her uncanny ability to make kindergarten learning so much fun, they wish they could go back.

Mrs. Ward holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Caldwell College and is state certified to teach K-8th grade.  Her teaching experience includes 5 years in the Denville public school system, and 21 years at SMP.  Our parents pride Mrs. Ward on her amazing ability to empower our 1st graders to become more independent learners.

2nd Grade: Mrs. McCarthy

Mrs. McCarthy holds a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education from the University of Dubuque.  She has nineteen years of experience as a second grade teacher at St. Joseph’s School in Lincoln Park. She also taught at St. Peter’s School in Parsippany and at St. Mary's School in Pompton Lakes, before settling down at SMP for the last 10 years.  Our parents pride Mrs. McCarthy on her incredible classroom management skills, and her ability to teach our children how to organize and prioritize

3rd Grade:  Mrs. Prunty

Mrs. Prunty holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Alvernia College, Reading, PA., and a graduate degree from Montclair State University. She is state certified in elementary and early childhood education and has worked in public, parochial and preschool classrooms. Mrs. Prunty has been teaching at SMP for four years. Our parents pride Mrs. Prunty on her fantastic ability to motivate and excite our children to learn as they begin to transition into more difficult content and material.

4th Grade: Mrs. Tatum

Mrs. Tatum holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Centenary College where she graduated Summa Cum Laude with a major in Psychology, Certification in Elementary Education (K-8), and Certification in Special Education (all grade levels).  Mrs. Tatum taught in public school, and has been with SMP for 7 years.  Our parents pride Mrs. Tatum on the warm and nurturing classroom environment she provides each day in order to allow students a comfortable and respectful setting in which to learn.

Mrs. Best holds a Bachelor of Arts in elementary education from Farleigh Dickinson University.  She is certified to teach nursery school through eighth grade, and also holds a Teacher of the Handicapped Certification with the NJ State Department of Education.  Mrs. Best taught in the Rockaway Public School system before joining SMP nine years ago.  Our parents pride Mrs. Best for providing our children with a stimulating classroom where they are constantly challenged and constantly learning.

6th Grade: Mrs. Kunz

Mrs. Kunz holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from New Jersey State University. She is certified to teach K-8th and has been teaching for over 30 years in both public and private schools. In 1999, Mrs. Kunz received the Parochial Teacher of the Year award from the Knights of Columbus. Our parents pride Mrs. Kunz on her ability to successfully transition our students into their middle school learning experience with patience, understanding and encouragement.

7th Grade: Mrs. Tucker

Mrs. Tucker holds a Bachelor of Science cum laude from Seton Hall University, and received her master’s degree summa cum laude in Elementary Education from the University of Phoenix.  She has been teaching at SMP for 3 years.  Our parents pride Mrs. Tucker on her renowned ability to motivate her students, however, our 2006 graduating class may have said it best… “Mrs. Tucker – You Rock!”

 

8th Grade: Mrs. Daw

Mrs. Daw holds a Masters Degree in Education Administration, and a Bachelor’s of Arts degree in Education.  She also holds state certification in Preschool Education, School Administration and School Supervision.  Mrs. Daw taught for 15 years in a Bloomfield, NJ parochial school and has been teaching at SMP for 5 years.  Our parents pride Mrs. Daw on her unending ability to multitask, and her dedication to the technology program at SMP.

Science : Ms. Donnelly

Ms. Donnelly is excited to share her first year teaching at St. Mary’s. Teaching is one of her passions and she believes that quality education is essential to all students. Ms. Donnelly graduated from Penn State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology. She then continued her education at Immaculata University where she fulfilled the state certification process in Elementary Education, as well as her Masters in Educational Leadership. She truly believes in her students and helping them ascertain their inner strengths and their love for learning. She wants to thank you for allowing her to take part in your child’ s educational process and she looks forward to working with both you and your children.

Music: Mrs. Warga

Mrs. Warga is a graduate of Drew University, and obtained her education credits at the County College of Morris. She has been involved in musical instruction, various drama club productions and musical programs.  Our parents pride her on her enthusiasm and love of SMP, and for putting together beautiful musical programs for the whole school to participate in and enjoy.

Art: Mrs. Oberst and Mrs. Pallone

Mrs. Oberst and Mrs. Pallone have been working at St. Mary's Prep in the Art Department for the past six years. They have worked as art therapists with senior citizens of Franciscan Oaks for the past eight years.

Physical Education: Mrs. Mahoney

Mrs. Mahoney is a graduate of William Paterson University in Wayne, NJ. This is her first year teaching physical education at St. Mary's Prep. Our parents pride Mrs. Mahoney on teaching our children about the importance of physical education and health, as well as running off some of that built up energy!

Mr. White

Mr. White grew up in Missouri, where he completed his Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering at the University of Missouri-Rolla. After retiring from a 34-year career with Southwestern Bell, AT&T, Lucent Technologies, and Avaya, Mr. White earned New Jersey certifications as a teacher of mathematics and technology. He is also certified as an elementary teacher. Mr. White joined St. Mary's in 2008 following experience in 2006 and 2007 at the middle and high school levels.
