Kindergarten

Kindergarten reading skills are reinforced through daily
instruction.
o The newest skill taught is how to determine the sequence of a story.
o The children are identifying nouns and verbs. The use of a picture
dictionary enables the children to do this.
o Phonemic awareness helps the children to decode words in stories and on
worksheets. Currently the children are learning short and long vowel
sounds. Letter blends will be introduced next.
o Various topics are illustrated and then a story is created. When
combined, the end result is displayed. The newest topics will be spring
and Earth Day.
Math lessons have been teaching how to tell time by naming the hour and
half hour, the value of a group of coins and simple addition and
subtraction facts.
Daily religion lessons have helped the children to understand the
background of religious holidays and have helped in character formation.
The Kindergarten children have acquired many skills that will help them as
they advance to the first grade.
